Registration

The aim of these consultation sessions is to help members of the Corvinus community (from undergrad to PhD student and lecturer level) in effectively communicating their ideas in writing in an academic setting in the English language. Participants are encouraged to bring drafts of their ongoing writing projects and they will receive expert advice on how to improve their writing in terms of structure, argumentation, style and language. We offer advice on term papers, BA and MA thesis, PhD dissertations, conference abstracts and scientific papers.
The consultation will be delivered digitally in Microsoft Teams. The instructor will call you at the start of the consultation. Please do not forget to send your paper/draft prior to the consultation, as instructed in the email that you will receive after registration.

Need some help with your term paper, BA/MA/PhD thesis or research paper? Join our new Academic Writing for Students Training! This 4-part training for members of the Corvinus community will help you become better at communicating your ideas in writing in an academic setting, whether at undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate level. 
Outline of the training:

Lesson 1 (24th February, 2021)
The basics of successful academic writing (relevant topic, clear claim, good structure, clarity, simplicity, audience assessment).
How to use an appropriate style (grammar, vocabulary, text organisation, spelling and punctuation, tone and approach).
Lesson 2 (3rd March, 2021)
How to have an efficient structure (main claim, thesis and support, arguments and counterarguments, introduction, main discussion and conclusion, acknowledgements, further topics for research, limitations, methodology).
Lesson 3 (10th March, 2021)
The different genres of academic writing (BA thesis, MA thesis, PhD thesis, peer-reviewed journal article, conference abstract, conference presentation, conference poster): similarities and differences in purpose, structure, style, length and content.
Lesson 4 (17th March, 2021)
Technical and visual formatting: page layout and numbering, title hierarchy, font sizes and font type, paragraph formatting, spacing etc. The advantages and disadvantages of word processors (such as MS Word) and document preparation systems (such as LaTeX).

The course will be delivered digitally in Microsoft Teams. The instructor will create a Group for the participants in Microsoft Teams where the classes will take place.
